John Kazen practices primarily in the following areas of law: Civil litigation; insurance defense and personal injury defense litigation; employment law; motor carrier defense; construction litigation; and education law. Mr. Kazen is also a certified mediator.
Mr. Kazen is a native of Laredo, Texas. Before moving back to Laredo in 1997 to form the law firm of Kazen, Meurer & Perez, LLP, he practiced law in El Paso, Texas, where he was a partner at the law firm of Kemp, Smith, Duncan & Hammond.
Education Background and Clerkships
Mr. Kazen received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987. He received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston, where he was an associate editor with the Journal of International Law. After graduating from law school, he served as a law clerk for the Hon. Robert Parker, Chief Judge, United States District Court, Eastern District of Texas. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1991, and he was admitted to the New Mexico State Bar in 1995.

Mr. Kazen was admitted to practice law in the State of Texas in 1991. He is also licensed to practice law in the State of New Mexico. He is admitted to practice before the U. S. District Courts of the Southern and Western Districts of Texas and the Fifth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, and the TASB Council of School Law Attorneys. He is a past member of the College of the Texas State Bar. He is a past member of the District 12-A Grievance Committee of The State Bar of Texas, and was a past treasurer and vice president of the Laredo-Webb County Bar Association.
